Kane Wommack Provides Encouraging Update on Injured Alabama Defensive Back, Hints at Strong Return Ahead of Crucial 2025 Season

Alabama’s new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is wasting no time making his presence felt—not just schematically, but in the way he communicates leadership, optimism, and belief in his players. And this week, his encouraging update on an injured Crimson Tide defensive back has fans buzzing with excitement and hope heading into the 2025 season.

Speaking with the media after a closed practice session, Wommack shared that injured defensive back Earl Little Jr. is making “excellent progress” and is expected to return “sooner than expected.” The rising junior, who missed spring ball with a lower-body injury, was once considered one of the most promising defensive backs in the SEC. Now, thanks to a dedicated rehab program and round-the-clock support from Alabama’s medical staff, Little Jr. is rapidly approaching full health.

“Earl is locked in mentally, leading from the sidelines, and attacking rehab like a future pro,” Wommack said. “You love to see a guy that passionate about coming back stronger. And he’s doing it.”

Little Jr. appeared in 10 games last season, recording 24 tackles, a sack, and 5 pass breakups. He was projected to be a breakout star before the injury struck. Wommack’s update signals that Earl will rejoin what is shaping up to be a fast, physical, and highly competitive Alabama secondary.

Perhaps most importantly, Wommack emphasized Little’s maturity and leadership. “He hasn’t missed a film session. He’s mentoring younger guys. That’s the kind of culture we’re building here,” he added. “We don’t just want players—we want warriors who know how to lead even when they’re not on the field.”

With Alabama’s season opener just weeks away, the possibility of getting Earl Little Jr. back for the early part of the season is a massive boost for the Tide’s championship hopes. His return, combined with the leadership of veterans like Malachi Moore and Kool-Aid McKinstry, gives Alabama one of the deepest and most experienced secondaries in the country.

In a program built on resilience, work ethic, and elite talent, Kane Wommack’s words are more than just coach-speak—they’re a signal that Alabama’s defense is rising, reloaded, and ready to dominate.
