Leeds United will reportedly look to recruit players who can fit into a 3-5-2 formation next season.
When the Whites visited Manchester City in late November, Daniel Farke switched to a 3-5-2 system at half-time.
It proved to be the catalyst for an uptick in form and fortunes, prompting Leeds to give themselves some breathing room in the battle for Premier League survival
Farke has continued to play a central back three with wing-backs, even if the specifics of the formation have been altered slightly.It has arguably been more of a 3-4-2-1 at times, although it is a system that changes depending on whether Leeds have possession or not anyway.
Leeds United’s ‘transfer plans’
According to Football Insider, Leeds are looking to stick with the system for the 2026/27 campaign regardless of their fate this term.
It has been suggested Farke has no plans to divert from the set-up and as a result, Leeds will make transfer moves accordingly.
However, the calibre of player they can get on board will be dictated by their final position in the Premier League this season.
Leeds United’s 2025/26 season business
Since their Championship title triumph last season, Leeds have made a total of 11 senior signings. 10 arrived on permanent deals, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Facundo Buonanotte the only loanee.
There have arguably been more hits than misses, even if the £15.6m acquisition of goalkeeper Lucas Perri is looking increasingly like a misstep.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha have freshened up the frontline, while Anton Stach has proven to be an excellent addition of the midfield. James Justin was among the lower-profile signings but has endeared himself to the Elland Road faithful. The pick of the bunch has arguably been Gabriel Gudmundsson, who has excelled as a left-back and a left wing-back since his move from Lille.
With seven games remaining, Leeds sit 15th in the Premier League table, four points above 18th-placed West Ham United. They will do battle with the Hammers next weekend but for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals rather than points.
