In an unexpected late addition to Orlando’s summer roster, former Georgia Bulldogs guard Dakota Leffew has secured a spot with the Magic for the 2025 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The 6’4″ combo guard, who went undrafted in 2024 after a solid collegiate career split between Mount St. Mary’s and Georgia, impressed Magic scouts during recent workouts with his improved three-point shooting and defensive versatility.
Leffew’s journey to this opportunity has been anything but conventional. After averaging 17.2 points and 4.1 assists as a senior at Mount St. Mary’s, he transferred to Georgia for his final season of eligibility where he served as a key rotational piece for the Bulldogs. Though his stats dipped to 8.7 points per game in the SEC, NBA evaluators took notice of his 39% three-point shooting against high-major competition and ability to defend multiple positions.
“This is exactly the chance I’ve been grinding for,” Leffew told reporters after the roster announcement. “Orlando’s system fits what I do – spacing the floor, making the right reads, and competing defensively. I’m coming in with a chip on my shoulder to prove I belong.”
The Magic’s summer league coaching staff specifically targeted Leffew after watching his pre-draft workouts, where he reportedly shot 48% from NBA three-point range in combine drills. His length (6’9″ wingspan) and basketball IQ make him an intriguing two-way prospect for a franchise that values positional size and shooting.
Orlando’s summer roster already features 2024 first-round pick Tristan da Silva along with several other young Magic players, meaning Leffew will need to make the most of limited opportunities. But the Maryland native has proven he can thrive when given a chance – he dropped 30 points against Villanova during his junior season at Mount St. Mary’s.
