In the summer, we spent a lot of time convincing players that Elland Road was the place to be.
“We tried FC” was the common insult thrown at the club’s failed pursuits of Igor Paixao, Rodrigo Muniz and other supposed ‘stretch targets’.
However, looking at Stach and Calvert-Lewin’s rise back to international prominence, it serves as proof of why Leeds is a viable route for these players.
Raphinha was the selling point made to Muniz and Paixao: ‘Look at this Brazilian who joined us as a relative unknown quantity, and left one of the best wingers in world football, now a regular Ballon d’Or candidate’.
Stach was a very, very good midfielder in the Bundesliga. But, he’s now finally forced his way into the Germany squad thanks to his move to Leeds. It’s exactly what the 49ers will be leaning on this summer – providing we stay up, of course.
