In a move set to reshape the college football landscape, the Ohio State Buckeyes have officially unveiled plans for a massive expansion and modernization of Ohio Stadium, widely known as “The Horseshoe.”
According to university officials, the project will be one of the most ambitious in college sports history, blending tradition with cutting-edge design to ensure the Buckeyes remain at the forefront of the NCAA both on and off the field.
The expansion will add approximately 15,000 new seats, boosting capacity beyond 120,000 and cementing Ohio Stadium as one of the largest sporting venues in the world. The design incorporates state-of-the-art facilities, including premium lounges, modernized locker rooms, expanded media zones, and next-generation digital scoreboards that promise an immersive fan experience.
A highlight of the project is the introduction of a “Buckeye Legacy Walk”, a fan-centric promenade circling the stadium with interactive displays, honoring past legends and celebrating historic victories. In addition, sustainability plays a central role: the redesign will implement green technology, including solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and energy-efficient systems, making Ohio Stadium one of the most environmentally friendly arenas in college athletics.
