HONOLULU — The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame has unveiled its 2025 Watch List for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award, and Brigham Young University is well represented with seven Cougars earning spots among the 81 players selected from 40 FBS schools .
The honored BYU players are Tausili Akana (defensive end), Raider Damuni (safety), Siale Esera (linebacker), Weylin Lapuaho (offensive line), Logan Lutui (defensive end), Sonny Makasini (offensive line), and Keanu Tanuvasa (defensive tackle) .
These athletes were chosen based on a combination of their college performance and future potential. The award recognizes Polynesian college football players who exemplify both exceptional ability and integrity .
Fans and analysts are already watching attentively, as additions to the list may still be made as the season progresses. Finalists will be unveiled on December 9, and the winner will be announced a week later on December 16 . The award presentation will take place during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Celebration Dinner on January 17, 2026, and will also be recognized during the Polynesian Bowl on January 16 .
Notably, BYU’s own Zach Kapono Wilson won the award in 2020 after leading the Cougars to an 11-1 record and ranking No. 11 in the nation, finishing the season with 3,692 passing yards and 33 touchdowns—a school record at the time .
The inclusion of seven BYU players on the watch list highlights the strength and depth of Polynesian talent in the program. As the season unfolds, these standout athletes will be key figures to watch as they vie not only for individual honors but also for the pride they carry representing both BYU and Polynesian heritage.
