College football analyst David Pollack has made a bold declaration — the Oklahoma Sooners have the best defensive line in the SEC and an absolute stud at quarterback. Appearing on The Dari Nowkhah Show, the former ESPN voice and Georgia legend didn’t hold back his excitement for Brent Venables’ squad heading into their inaugural SEC campaign.
“I’m a believer in the Sooners,” Pollack said. “Obviously, getting your quarterback. That kid is a baller. And I know all y’all know who I’m talking about.”
Though he didn’t say his name, everyone knew he was referring to Jackson Arnold. The former five-star phenom and Elite 11 MVP is expected to take full command of the offense in 2025. After flashes of brilliance last year, Arnold has grown into a poised leader with a rocket arm, elite instincts, and a winning mentality — and national voices like Pollack are clearly buying the hype.
But for Pollack, the real reason Oklahoma could shock the SEC comes up front — in the trenches.
“I think they’ve got the best D-line in the SEC,” he declared. “They’re deep, they’re athletic, and they play with an edge.”
And he’s not wrong. Defensive ends like Ethan Downs and Rondell Bothroyd have looked unblockable in camp, while interior forces Da’Jon Terry, Jacob Lacey, and Gracen Halton provide serious muscle inside. Combine that with freak athlete PJ Adebawore, who’s expected to break out in his sophomore season, and Oklahoma suddenly has one of the most intimidating defensive fronts in the country.
With defensive coordinator Ted Roof and Brent Venables dialing up the pressure, OU’s ability to disrupt opposing quarterbacks could be a major key to a successful SEC transition.
“I’m telling you, this team is for real,” Pollack added. “They’ve got star power on both sides, and they look more like an SEC team than ever before.”
